Green Team

Mosaic seeks to be a green church. Our Green Team is working to educate our church on eco spirituality and the best practices of caring for our environment.

Pat Hoerth, a deaconess in the United Methodist Church, is a member of Mosaic. Pat along with her sister Ann Denney have turned their family farm into a retreat center to help people connect with nature and learn to live sustainably. Check it out at

The Oklahoma Conference has an environmental coalition working in several areas:

Oklahoma United Methodist Environmental Coalition Mission Statement (approved December 7, 2003)

  • The United Methodist Environmental Coalition is a grassroots collective of people and congregations from across the Oklahoma area and partners with other United Methodists to raise awareness and act on behalf of God's Creation.
  • We will encourage persons and congregations to live according to the United Methodist Social Principles in our relationship to the natural world (see United Methodist Book of Discipline, Social Principles 2000 Book of Discipline 160)

To this end we strive:

  • To identify and proclaim the spiritual and ethical dimensions of environmental problems and their possible solutions.
  • To assist, educate and to be a resource for individuals and congregations in their effort to proactively care for God's Creation.
  • To encourage churches to explore the possibility of becoming an Environmental Justice Covenant Congregation.
  • To educate persons, congregations, the Oklahoma Annual Conference, and legislators on a variety of environmental public policy issues from a religious perspective.
  • To provide religiously focused environmental resources -
  • specifically liturgical resources to celebrate Creation Care Sunday.
  • To carry on this ministry in partnership with congregations in the United Methodist Church and other ecumenical bodies as well as other local environmental initiatives and groups.
