Week 1 was about the theme of creation. Our readings started with Genesis chapter 1. It's interesting - the Bible doesn't try to make a case for the existence of God. The bible begins with the assumption that God does indeed exist.
And God is a creator. However, I don't think the bible is a science book or history in telling us exactly HOW or WHEN the world was created.
Did you notice that we have 2 creation stories? The first creation story is Genesis 1:1 - 2:4. The second creation story is Genesis 2:4 -31. Did you notice the similarities AND differences in these two stories? Just go back and see what term is used for "God" in each of these stories.
The readings these week were fairly easy and short. We will move into longer readings as we progress through the calendar. By the end, we will have read about 85% of the bible.
Genesis 1 and 2 are beautiful stories about the beginning of the world. Things will soon take a turn, however, as "sin" enters the world in the garden.
