Renovation

Susan Humphrey, along with her husband David, have been working on plans for a remodel of the sanctuary, hallway, restrooms, and fellowship hall. They have had input from the staff and others who use the building on a regular basis.

What are the plans? (There is a display at the church illustrating these changes!)

1st PHASE

FELLOWSHIP HALL/KITCHEN

  1. New ceiling and lighting in the fellowship hall.
  2. New flooring in the fellowship hall and kitchen.
  3. The walls in fellowship hall will be redone.
  4. Improve the insulation in the fellowship hall
  5. New doors installed for the storage area (where we currently have curtains)
  6. More electrical outlets installed in fellowship hall.
  7. New cabinets installed on the east and north walls of the serving area (cabinets to match the cabinets on the south wall.)
  8. Retractable shade installed over the Rose Window (on west end)

2nd PHASE

SANCTUARY

  1. New carpet and flooring installed in the sanctuary.
  2. Removing the pews and using chairs.
  3. Creating a ramp for access to the chancel area
  4. extending the stairs where the choir stands and removing of modesty rails, opening up the chancel, installing handrails for choir, etc
  5. Redoing the communion rails
  6. New windows next to the tile at the south end of the church/installing a ledge where we usually place Christmas trees (under the screen)
  7. Painting of ceiling tiles
  8. The brick on the east and west sides of the sanctuary will be painted to accentuate the ribs as an architectural feature

3rd PHASE

HALLWAY/RESTROOMS

  1. New carpet in the hallway, office, nursery rooms, and classroom across from the elevator
  2. The walls and ceilings in the hallway will be redone.
  3. Widening the hallway where the mechanical room is located.
  4. Creating a welcome center out of the second mechanical room.
  5. a new storefront for the west entrance
  6. Redoing the existing restrooms.
  7. Relocation of food pantry

In November and December, the congregation approved these plans, and we are gearing up for the remodel to start SOON (in a matter of weeks! This is such an exciting time in the life of Mosaic!

We plan to fund the remodel with the remaining funds from the sale of the Epworth church and the Clegg church. You will have an opportunity to give financially to this effort as well - by purchasing furniture. We are hoping many of you will be willing to donate at least the cost of one chair for the sanctuary! Other opportunities to give will be revealed very soon. With any remodel or building project, there are always unexpected costs.

We believe this remodel will enhance the mid-century vibe of the property and make our church space a more welcoming and attractive environment. As guests enter our church, we want them to know we honor the history of our space but that we are also looking to the future!
